October is breast cancer awareness month. ~178,560 women globally will be diagnosed with Breast Cancer in the month of October (staggering number!).
During October my goal is to walk 50 000 steps per week.
This might not sound a huge amount to some of you sporty types - but in October last year I was diagnosed with breast cancer. This was followed by surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy which I completed in August. I am still building up my stamina and slowly returning to my usual energy levels- so this is an ambitious target for me.
My amazing Cytiva colleagues Lucy Cook, Mieke Heyde, Sandra Haiderer, Janine de la Fuente Borges and Ewa Gallon will be joining me in this challenge- walking, running, dancing or maybe even skipping! As they are located in many different European countries we wouldn't be able to walk together- except virtually on Teams calls!
Every £ raised will be donated directly to Breast Cancer Research Foundation and matched by my employer Cytiva and our sister company Pall Life Sciences .
BCRF funds over 300 research projects in over 14 countries. 94c of every dollar raised goes to fund research. Here are UK’s top researchers & projects funded by BCRF https://www.bcrf.org/researchers .
I'd love to see a time when breast cancer could be prevented or at least detected much earlier. And for those women diagnosed with breast cancer that more kind and less debilitating therapies become available.
Thank you very much for your kind donation. Rachel xx
