A CrossFit Mom of 3 fights Breast Cancer

Donation protected
This is not the type of request that the father and mother of three have ever made as we have fortunately been on the other end of this, giving rather than receiving. Our daughter Julie could use a bit of financial help while facing the challenges of cancer for the next few months. She is determined to overcome this and return doing all that she does for her family and friends.

Julie is strong, a fighter and one who will go out of her way for others. When we think back to when she was seven and we received a call from her pediatrician that he believed she had Leukemia. Since we lived in Woburn and there was an outbreak of this disease, it crushed us. But Julie was strong and got healthy, always a fighter. Her bone marrow was OK but all the other symptoms were there and fortunately it was not our worst fears. Children’s hospital was her home for a month where she was cared for by some incredible doctors and nurses. She never complained and even had her birthday there.

Jumping ahead, Julie did well in school and after college began teaching Spanish but thought that she would rather use her skills in the restaurant business and then her own business, always a hard worker while serving the public. As a single parent, she continues her event planning business and then opened a CrossFit gym where she runs the daily operations and teaches classes. She provides for her three children making sure they have all that a 17, 10 and 6 year older may need. We have watched her work two jobs to provide for the family but most gratifying is the way she teaches them respect and knowing that to do what is right is always the best option.

She will never ask us for anything but when we may surprise her with a bit of help you can see the tears of thanks and the love and respect she gives us. But now she will need a bit more for a short period of time.

A month ago she was diagnosed with breast cancer.  Julie is facing this head on, with spirits high and an attitude that make us proud. After numerous tests and biopsies she will undergo a double mastectomy possibly followed by some radiation, then another reconstructive surgery to be done at Dana Farber as well. We know the healing and recovery is painful but she will do it. As her dad and a Vietnam Veteran being treated for cancer at Dana Farber I do understand what this does to you. But with family and friends coupled with a positive attitude and a courageous spirit, she will conquer this bump in the road. Julie has that determination. As her parents we are with her to help in all ways and will do so.

With humility and gratitude we realize that she may need a bit more financial help for only the next few months to take the pressure off as a single parent and allow her to focus on recovery.

Any donation to assist is welcomed and will get her through this. On her behalf, because she would never want to impose on others, we say THANK YOU!
