Hi all, I found out this past September that I have breast cancer. Those of you who know me are aware that I lost my mother to cancer back in 2011, when I was 19 years old. I’m 34 now, and to get almost the same diagnosis now as she did when she was close to 50 has flipped my world upside down.
I’m definitely scared and anxious, but trying to stay positive and hold on to the good news: I’m young, healthy, and they caught this cancer early.
The timing of all of this is crazy though. Just this past summer my partner Danneille had a cancer scare and surgery of her own. Our dog Gia suffered a herniated disc a week later and had to get surgery. And now with my cancer diagnosis, that’s 3 major, expensive surgeries in less than 6 months.
I completely understand if someone isn’t in a position to donate. I truly appreciate all the emotional, mental and physical support my friends and family offer. I’m so lucky to have such wonderful friends and family who have been so gracious, loving, and understanding about what I’m going through.
If you do find yourself in a position to donate, I cannot thank you enough. Your donation will help fund:
- Mastectomy bills: hospital stay, procedure, anesthesia, pathology, etc.
- Medication: I’ll need to take hormone blocking medicine for 5-10 years after my surgery, since the cancer I have is ER/PR+, HER2-
- Potential chemo: there’s a chance after my surgery and pathology report that the oncologist will recommend chemo. Hoping I won’t need it though
- Household bills: rent, utilities, groceries
- Finishing to pay off Danneille’s medical bills
If I find myself in a position where I’ve raised more than enough money for myself, all remaining funds will be donated to the American Cancer Society.
Thank you for reading this far, and even if you aren’t able to donate, sending me good thoughts, prayers, and positive energy is also so much appreciated. Sending all of you love and good vibes. Also, even if you are under 40 years old, please go get regular cancer screenings.
