Breast Cancer Chemo and Transportation Costs Greetings, my name is Selamawit Thomas and I am a mother of three beautiful young ladies and an elementary teacher who loves having the opportunity to shape young minds. I am currently in the fight of my life after recently being diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Breast Cancer runs in my family with five of my aunts being diagnosed with this life-threatening disease..three of which lost their battle...forced to leave this world much to early. My father also was taken to soon when he passed away from pancreatic cancer in 2008. Hearing my family history, my gynecologist urgently recommended DNA testing to uncover any underlying traces of genetic flaws that could lead to a future cancer diagnosis. The test came back positive for BRCA and the CHEK 2 gene mutations. With the genes being present I have been vigilant in regular yearly testing and just before my annual GYN visit, I went for my yearly mammogram. Soon after that, I received a phone call from my doctor stating that my mammography results were back and he needed to see me right away. I knew immediately something was wrong and before going to see him, he sent me to the breast center for a second breast exam to ensure the first results were accurate. The tests were positive...I was diagnosed with breast cancer...and my world felt as though it was being stripped away from me. Would I see my girls grow into beautiful women? Would I be able to be at their weddings, hold my grandchildren, see their futures? I began to FIGHT! I am not going to sit back and give in to this dreaded disease. I will beat the hardest battle of my life and to do so I need your help. My treatment consists of six rounds of TCHP chemotherapy treatments. Due to our current Coronavirus Pandemic, surgeries aren’t allowed so I am only eligible for chemotherapy treatment before I undergo a double mastectomy later in the year. Due to the DNA results, it is also recommended for me to have a complete hysterectomy due to the increased risk of ovarian cancer and the difficulty of detecting the disease. Being the fighter that I am, I had my first round of chemo and I have five more rounds to go. I am asking for your support to help cover the costs of: ●     Transportation to and from my chemo treatments. Due to the Corona Virus, I am unable to take public transportation because it will compromise my weakened immune system. ●     Living expenses to help support myself and my family now and after my surgery later in the year as I will be out of work for six weeks or more. ●     A cold cap that would reduce the risk of hair loss.
