I am raising money for my sister, Alisa.
She has always been a giver and a bright light for so many people, but now she is going through really hard times and needs us to be a light for her.
Alisa was diagnosed with breast cancer at 38 and had no insurance. A county program paid for her mastectomy and 8 rounds of chemo, but there were no funds or programs for her breast reconstruction. She was left disfigured and depressed for 3 years. So she had to return to work 5 months post-chemo- as a Showgirl in Las Vegas. (The padded her costume) and she became known as the Lopsided Showgirl (read her story)
My sister turned her cancer lemons into lemonade by starting a charity, My Hope Chest which was the first of its kind to provide free reconstruction surgeries to uninsured women across America, truly changing their lives forever. They are still helping women on a limited basis. Her charity is so unique, PEOPLE magazine even did a story on her
Shawn's Story-
Alisa believes the charity was her calling, her life's work, and why she got cancer. She's been passionate and dedicated to helping women all over America find closure from their cancer, even sacrificing her full salary for years to keep staff and the charity running. During the pandemic, she lost both her staff members (both had cancer and she still kept them working), her mother passed, and she moved twice while her life was falling apart- still fighting to maintain the charity.
The Problem
However, post-pandemic and since the many Florida hurricanes impacted giving, funding for the charity's program and operations has diminished, leaving Alisa out of work since 2024. She was so focused on her mission, she neglected to secure her own oxygen mask.
She's diligently applys, but is still unable to find work.
To survive, Alisa's has been on SNAP food support and electric assistance. She's maxed her credit, and doesn't have money for mortgage or bills for this month yet. On top of all this, she just had a serious accident and broke some bones in her back. She cannot work now until she is healed. It's horrible, my heart is breaking.
How to Help
I want to help raise money to cover Alisa's bills for 6 months or more so she can catch her breath, heal, and find new employment. She now adds medical bills to her list of worries and needs. She is too proud to ask for help, so I am.
Alisa's dedication and selflessness for the past 22 years changed the lives of so many women forever ... I hope you will help me help my sister now during this very challenging time in her life.
Thank you for your contribution of any amount.

God bless.
