Breakspear Ponies & Socks

Edit 18/01/24
Jan update. We express our gratitude to all those who have generously donated to the horse fund. Thanks to your kind contributions, we have been able to rescue a horse named Socks and ensure that the horses receive hay multiple times per week. The cost of each bale is £6, and we typically need around 6 bales at a time during cold weather. Our aim is to provide them with hay regularly in order to reduce the likelihood of them attempting to escape and ending up on the road, which poses a significant danger to both motorists and these magnificent ponies. As we approach spring, we anticipate the arrival of more foals as a number of the mares are pregnant once again. Every single penny raised is dedicated to covering expenses for hay, food, and veterinary care. Unfortunately, we currently have a substantial outstanding bill with the a vet, and they will not accept monthly payments from us. Moreover, they impose late payment charges each month that we are unable to settle the whole bill which is really hurting us. Therefore, we are collecting items from generous locals to sell at a car boot sale as soon as the weather permits, with the hope of being able to pay off the bill – our first priority has to be to ensure the horses get nourishment during these really cold times. Once again thank-you for any donations and please follow our Facebook page (Harefield Horses) for any updates and photo’s.

I want to start by saying thank you to everyone who has donated and supported in some way to help these horses.
BIG NEWS! There are two new foals in the field, they are amazing and doing well this far. However, this does mean that in the next few months there will be two more horses to feed in the field. Mums are feeding their foals well at the moment.
The money raised so far as helped keep the horses fed and watered. They do have a shallow stream of water running at the back of the field however, this will soon dry up in the summer, there are also a couple of horses that are too poorly (or isolated from the rest of the herd) to get to the water. We have had some people kind enough to donate large water containers for us to fill up and take to the field. I have also used the funds raised to buy more water containers as we will need more water going forward in the summer months.
although we do not need hay now, there is still not enough grass in the field to ensure that the horses are well fed. Come autumn/winter they will need hay again.
we urge anyone who can to please continue to donate so we can continue to help these horses! Currently it is costing around £100 a week to keep these horses fed. This will lower in the summer months as they do not need hay, but will still need carrots/apples and treats to help keep them them strong enough to heal wounds they have.
what we give them is no where near the amount they truly need.
we are in the process of trying to find a vet to come out to the horses and give them any treatments they may need and we are still working closely with the RSPCA to take action!
THANK YOU all for your continued support!

Thanks to those who have donated over the last few weeks we have been able to feed and water these horses almost every day.
We are trying to find a vet who is Willing to come and see the horses as some need medical attention, some are pregnant and they all need to be checked over.
We are in contact with the RSPCA and are awaiting another update on these beautiful horses.
We believe this is going to be a long term issue and would be over the moon if our local community would be willing to donate £10/20 a month for the foreseeable to support these beautiful beings and make them our community treasures.
we are hoping we can raise enough money for shelter and safe fencing. We are asking for help from local authorities and awaiting responses.
there is a large team of us chasing these up on a daily basis.
We do appreciate all the support you have given us and continue to give us!
if anyone wishes to get involved we have a watsapp group for more regular updates anyone wanting to join please leave a message on here!

thanks from us and the Breakspear Ponies! ❤️

Hi,
there are 12/13 Cobs ponies on Breakspear road that seem to have been either abandoned or neglected. They require 4 bales of hay every other day until the grass grows. This is going to cost around £100 a week.
they need fresh water which we are filling 5L bottles of water and taking down each day. We need the community to hand together to help deliver water each day and provide bales of hay at roughly £4.50-£6 a bale.
there is a pregnant mare and young foles in the field. There is a young horse that has an injury to his hind legs and needs urgent vet attention. We are trying to reach the RSPCA to do something but this is a long process and the horses need our support until something can be done.

thank you for anything you can do!
