Breaking the Penny Farthing Hour Record

Howdy,

My name is Simon (the Bike Guy) Weir and I am on the verge of breaking the Penny Farthing Hour record (34.45km).

I am the 3 time Australian National Champion and have set course records at Evandale, TAS. This has got me thinking about what it means to be a G.O.A.T. on the Penny.

Truly, the prestige of the longest running Penny races in the world is only 1 aspect. The next aspect is to go for REAL world records, like the hour, fastest and 1km.

The final aspect is a gimmicky record or two, like the No Hands hour, No Hands 1km and Fastest No Hands Penny...all of which I could break while playing a guitar on top.

As the Honorary President of the Asia Penny Farthing Association I have been invited to attempt the Indoor Record in Hong Kong in December, backing onto the Chinese National Games. This will bring great attention to the sport and create international focus on our wonderful sport!

My training has been focused for the Penny and I know there are a combination of factors that relate to a record on the penny: tall (long legs means bigger wheel means further distance travelled), fit (great endurance from my Triathlon background, 300+W FTP), fast (I'm not a Sprinter but I have a solid GC style fitness) and experience on the Penny specifically (3 time National Champ).

All profits raised will be donated to the Early Morning Centre in Canberra.

They are a morning kitchen run by the Canberra City Uniting Church offering free breakfasts 7 days a week to the homeless in the region and I really rate their work.
