Help Jaime Rebuild His Life
Imagine navigating life without a family to rely on, no place to truly call home, and a mountain of bureaucratic red tape keeping you from even the simplest necessities. This is Jaime's reality, and we need your help to give him the fresh start he deserves.
Jaime’s Story
Jaime’s life has been a rollercoaster of challenges. After being put up for adoption, he spent time in foster care before being adopted twice. His name changed each time: first to Jaime Rivera Oliphant, then to Jaime Lawrence Rivera. Unfortunately, due to a clerical error, the second adoption wasn’t properly documented in New York, leaving Jaime stuck in a legal and administrative nightmare.
- Birth Certificate Catch-22: His birth certificate still lists his first adopted name (Jaime Rivera Oliphant), but his Social Security card reflects his second name (Jaime Lawrence Rivera). Without matching documents, Jaime cannot obtain an official ID, a state ID, or even update his birth certificate.
- ID Crisis: To get a birth certificate, he needs an official ID. To get an official ID, he needs a birth certificate. This cruel bureaucratic loop has left Jaime unable to access basic rights, like getting a job or opening certain accounts.
A Life of Struggles
On top of these challenges, Jaime is estranged from his second adopted family. He’s completely on his own, with no family to turn to and only a small circle of friends offering limited support. Life has become a constant battle:
- Struggling to find work due to lack of ID.
- Living in a small apartment, barely making ends meet.
- Coping with immense stress and isolation.
Jaime is a kind-hearted, even-tempered young man who means well and works hard. He deserves so much more than this uphill battle. He is smart; he was admitted into UConn Storrs Campus, until the stress and finances forced him to drop out. Jaimie is a smart young man who needs a little help to get back on his feet.
