Breaking Barriers: Support a Black Woman in Chemistry

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Ashley Brooke McCowin, and I’m a second-year Odyssey Scholar at the University of Chicago with a passion for chemistry. I am one of four students who have been accepted into an exciting research study abroad program at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland, where I’ll live and do research from June 13th to August 24th. This is a dream opportunity to advance my studies and gain hands-on experience in my field. However, as a student from a low-income household, I need your help to make this once-in-a-lifetime experience possible.

Why This Matters:
This program is a critical step toward my goal of pursuing a PhD, but the costs of housing, food, travel, and essential needs are beyond what my family and scholarships can cover. As an Odyssey Scholar, I’ve worked hard to overcome financial barriers in my education, but this opportunity requires additional support.

How Your Support Will Help:
Every dollar raised will go directly toward:
✈️ Round-trip travel (flights, transportation): $1500
Housing & meals during my stay in Edinburgh: $5000
Lab fees, materials, and essential living expenses: $1000

Why I’m Reaching Out:
I’ve never been abroad before, and this program could shape my future career in chemistry.

Any donation—big or small—will make a difference. If you can’t contribute financially, sharing this campaign would mean the world to me. Thank you for believing in my education and helping me take this huge leap forward in my academic journey!
