Break the 8 Month Cycle: Help Rehouse Kids and Trans Dad

Hi, I'm Cade. I'm a trans solo-dad and professional candymaker. My kids and I have been in and out of temporary housing situations the past 8 months. Everything we have has gone toward paying nightly rates that more than double the cost of renting a 2-bedroom apartment. I have my kids 24/7, and one of them has special needs. This process has been especially agonizing for them. They are unable to keep their belongings in one place or have space to themselves. I have to keep my work things in three different places across town.

The admin involved in maintaining this day-to-day survival mode has prevented us from getting out of this cycle. This summer break has been especially taxing on my ability to work, making some of it impossible.

We tried fundraising before in the beginning of the year, but were unable to outpace the nightly rates we had to pay, which cost 2x what rent would be for a real apartment.

We've kept our heads in the game this whole time. The kids get plenty of time swimming and playing soccer, going for walks in the woods, and playing games with dad. I've cut back on motel costs by squatting when it was 15 degrees out, and sleeping in the woods for a week and a half. Just to get a head start and try to save up more.

If we can raise the amount above within a timeframe that surpasses the outrageous costs of nightly stays, we will be able to cover moving costs, first, last, and a hefty deposit. Anything after that will help replace some of the essentials we've had to ditch without a place to put them.
