I’m Jay Penn, the writer and creator of Love & Us. This series is loosely inspired by my own experiences as a gay man searching for love in Los Angeles. As I navigated career, friendship, and self-growth, I came to realize I was missing the kind of love I truly wanted in my life. Even more striking was that many of my friends felt the same way. So I took our collective stories and created this series as a point of connection and comfort — for anyone in our age group who has ever felt unseen or fallen out of love with the idea of love.

Love & Us" is a comedy that follows fictional characters Sean, Devin, and Andrew—three black gay millennials navigating love and self-discovery in Los Angeles. As they enter their 30s, the trio confronts the isolating reality of being double minorities in a city that glorifies being single, unbothered, and promiscuous.

Once convinced that real love wasn't for them, they now grapple with an undeniable yearning for deeper connections. The series authentically explores themes of friendship, sexual wellness, and the struggle to find love within themselves and with others.

With sharp humor and emotional depth, "Love & Us" offers a relatable look at the complexities of dating in LA, challenging stereotypes while celebrating the enduring human desire for love and belonging.

Season 1 of the series premiered on YouTube in 2022 and has since built a dedicated and growing audience. Now, I want to build on that momentum by delivering a new season filled with deeper storytelling and even more laughs. There’s a clear and growing demand for authentic gay narratives — especially at a time when such stories are noticeably absent from major networks.

This project is important to me because it challenges the false narratives media has long imposed on gay storytelling. Too often, gay men are portrayed as a monolith — a one-size-fits-all community — which couldn’t be further from the truth. With Love & Us, my goal is to break that perception and explore the complexities of characters who are genuinely searching for love. At its core, this series is about romance, friendship, and self-discovery.
