My name is Sara, and for over seven years I have been living in a state of painful limbo, unable to move forward with my life. In 2019, I made the difficult and courageous decision to leave my ex, hoping to begin a new chapter built on dignity, safety, and personal freedom. However, despite the passage of time, I remain bound to a past I have tried so hard to leave behind.
Under Jewish law, I am considered an agunah: a “chained woman” because my ex, Izzie Sobol, continues to refuse to grant me a Gett (religious divorce). Without it, I am unable to fully reclaim my independence, remarry, or rebuild my life in accordance with my faith and values. What should have been a straightforward process has instead become an ongoing source of emotional distress and hardship.
Each day that passes is another day of feeling trapped, silenced, and denied the basic right to move forward. This is not just a legal or religious issue, it is a deeply human one. It is about freedom, dignity, and the ability to live without being held captive by someone else’s refusal.
I am reaching out with humility and hope, asking for your support during this incredibly difficult journey. Your contributions will help me pursue the legal and advocacy efforts necessary to obtain my Gett and finally secure my freedom. More than that, your support is a reminder that I am not alone, and that there are people who believe in justice, compassion, and the right of every person to live a full and unchained life.
Please help me break free from these invisible chains and step into the future I have been waiting for over seven long years.
Thank you for your kindness, your empathy, and your support.
