A few days ago on Allison’s birthday (9/7), we were in San Francisco returning from a concert to our Airbnb. When we started to unlock our front door, a dog charged toward us, and we braced to fight off an attack. The dog burrowed between my legs, and we realized it was a frightened puppy with duct tape cruelly wrapped around its mouth and eyes, along with a rope tied brutally tight around its neck.
After carefully removing several layers of duck tape and the rope strangling her neck, we decided to keep her overnight since the shelters were closed. The next morning we took her to a local shelter where she’s currently getting the care she needs.
The rope around her neck was tied so tight it caused a deep laceration around her entire neck and a nasty infection. The SFACC shelter has her on antibiotics and is taking great care of her. Unfortunately, they informed us they’re at full capacity and new animals are arriving each day.
This sweet pup has been through a lot, probably more than we know, but she’s shockingly affectionate and trusting. We can’t help but feel mushy and like it was fate that she found us right as we got to the Airbnb at 3am, over a thousand miles from our own home, and on Allison’s birthday! So, although we were not in the market to adopt a dog, we’ll be flying back to San Francisco on Sunday (9/21) to adopt Brazen (that’s what we named her :,) and bring her home to Colorado.
I’m writing because a friend encouraged me to share Brazen’s story and felt like some people may feel a desire to contribute towards her fresh start. All donations will go towards adoption fees, vet visits, medication, & basic pet supplies. We’ll prioritize second hand/thrifted supplies before getting anything new. We’re happy to share updates on her progress and future adventures. If you’re able to donate or share her story, or simply send some healing energy her way, it means the world to us! Thank you for taking the time to read Brazens story ❤️
Updates to come once we have her home!
