Meet beautiful Bravo! We adopted her a little over a month ago from Texas. Potter's Angels took this beauty in and helped us to give her a home. We knew she was meant to be from the moment we met her.

When we brought her to our first vet visit, we were shocked to learn she a had severe heart murmur, something was structurally wrong with her heart. She was likely from a breeder, and was given away or abandoned when her heart defect was discovered.

Last Thursday we learned that she has a severe but correctable defect! She has a patent ductus arteriosus (PDA), a defect that has a 50-60% mortality rate within the first year of life. Bravo is almost 2! Her survival to this point is evidence of this girl's fight. Having a PDA for almost 2 years has caused her left ventricle to be severely dilated and her mitral valve to leak, but she is otherwise unaffected. Untreated, her life expectancy is only a few years.

We have surgery scheduled for July 10th, and we are so relieved. Bravo is incredible, she is gentle, loving and has filled a hole we didn't know we had. She gets along so well with her small, bratty siblings (all 3!).

The current estimate is $7,000-$9,000, not including the echo we had Thursday or followup care. In addition, if they are unable to perform this as a percutaneous surgery (catheter fed up through an artery in the groin into the heart), the cost will change significantly as they will have to open her chest.
