On Monday, December 1, 2025, the Lane family received a life-changing phone call: Annie, just 11 years old, had received a match for her heart and was to immediately come to CHOP for her heart transplant surgery. The news was both overwhelming and filled with hope. The surgery went extremely well, with all of the doctors and nurses exclaiming how “perfect” the heart was for Annie. The family truly believes that God had all of this planned, and they are deeply grateful for the care and expertise of the medical team.
Annie’s journey with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS), or half of a heart, has been both emotional and challenging for Annie and her loved ones. The Lane family has shown incredible strength and faith throughout this process, but the financial burden is significant. Medical bills, travel to and from the hospital, housing near CHOP, and daily expenses like food add up quickly. Supporting Annie means helping her family stay by her side and ensuring she has everything she needs for a full recovery.
We all appreciate your prayers and support for the Lane family this week, and we ask that you continue to pray for healing and peace, not just for Annie, but for the whole Lane family. If you are able to donate toward this incredible, God-loving family, any amount will be appreciated. The day the white-coated specialist announced, “I’m sorry. Something’s wrong with your baby’s heart. She probably won’t live to be born,” was the scariest day of my life. He gave us a choice that day, one that he said would be easy. On November 20, 2013, we chose life for our daughter. We had to wait a week to see if her diagnosis would even be compatible with our choice. And honestly, the doctor’s recommendation sounded terrifyingly inviting and horrifyingly easy. I whimpered to Matt, “I don’t want a baby like this.” I didn’t feel brave red-eyed and sobbing that half of my unborn daughter’s heart was missing. But I learned that brave is doing the right thing when it doesn’t feel like it’s worth doing.
Saving Annie's life hasn’t been easy. It hasn’t been cheap. It hasn’t been normal. It hasn’t been neat and tidy. In fact, Annie has a beautiful but jagged, light purple scar covering her chest that matches an ugly scar inside our hearts. And of course, saving Annie’s life hasn’t been all that convenient as we plan our life around the day when she'll need a third open heart surgery. But saving Annie's life has been worth it. Every single second of every single heartbeat has proclaimed to a watching world that there’s something more than convenient. There’s something more than logical. There’s something more than easy. There’s the Creator who’s writing a beautiful story of redemption in the face of our Annie: a story of life and hope and of a God who knows what He’s doing." -Tracy #StandforLIFE
