This week, my sweet dog Blue — my loyal, happy, loving 11-year-old pit bull mix — went from having a weak leg and no appetite to fighting for his life.
On Monday, we brought Blue to the vet. Bloodwork showed critically high liver enzymes, so he was kept for monitoring and an ultrasound. Despite constant care, his enzyme levels kept climbing. By Wednesday, the vets warned us that if he didn’t improve soon, we might have to say goodbye. My family prepared ourselves for the hardest day.
But then, a miracle. Just as we were on our way to see Blue, the vet called — they had performed another ultrasound and discovered the true cause: a severely blocked bile duct. Emergency surgery was Blue’s only chance.
We made the decision to go forward, no matter the risk or cost, because Blue deserves a chance to keep living. During surgery, the doctors also found and removed a growth on his spleen. Thankfully, the surgery was a success, and Blue is now in recovery.
Not everyone would make this decision for a dog his age, but to me, Blue is priceless. He has been my constant companion through some of the darkest moments in my life, always bringing joy, love, and loyalty. He is the happiest, sweetest soul, and he deserves the chance to keep bringing light to the world.
The reality is that emergency surgery and ongoing care come with a heavy financial burden. While I wish money didn’t play a role in deciding whether our loved ones get a chance to live, it does. That’s why I’m humbly asking for help.
If you are able to contribute — any amount, big or small — it will go directly toward covering Blue’s surgery and medical care. If you can’t give, sharing this page or simply giving your own pet an extra hug means the world to us.
Blue’s life is a gift, and I am so grateful he has the chance to keep shining. Thank you for reading his story and supporting us in this difficult time.
With love and gratitude,
Annie
