If you had one wish when you were 16 years old, what would it be?
The Winter Wishes program at Branham High School begins when students and staff receive star cutouts upon which they can write down any wish, big or small, ranging from a chocolate donut to an entire month's rent, from new socks to a laptop.
One of our students, Edward is a modest, hardworking junior with a bright smile. While earning straight A's and holding a job to help his family with bills, Edward got permission to skip school so he could work additional hours at the polls on election day. When he made his "Winter Wish" Edward wished for help paying for the Calculus, Physics, and English AP exams he hopes to take this year.
Like Edward, more than 70 of our students wished for help paying for their AP exams. Instead of drawing names to find out which lucky students will receive relief for their exam fees, we aim to erase this barrier for the entire group. At $93 per exam, many students have studied and are qualified, but can't afford to pay for multiple exams. Our AP students come from an incredibly diverse range of cultural backgrounds--many are bilingual and bicultural--but they are all serious, high-achieving students transitioning from high school to college. More passing AP scores is a major boost when competing for university admissions, and the gifts we make now can save these students thousands in tuition fees in the future as well.
We would be incredibly grateful for any amount you and your company can invest in our students. All donations will go directly to our students' AP exam fees. If you would like more information about the Winter Wishes program, please contact Shari Scott-Sawyer, the Activities Director at Branham High School. You may reach her by calling (408) [phone redacted] x 7130 or by emailing [email redacted].
Thanks so much for joining in and showing our kids you recognize and support their hard work!
