On December 23, Brandon Shaw, a well known member of our local community, was rushed by squad to the emergency room for a severe asthma attack. Upon arrival to the hospital, he suffered a full code episode and his heart stopped for 7 minutes. The doctors believe this was brought on by a heart attack and stroke due to the lack of oxygen. The medical staff was able to be revived and placed on life support for both his heart and lungs. He continued to improve as he was able to be taken off of the ECMO machine.However, the damage was hiding as only several catscans could be given because of the ventilator and the fact he couldn't be off of the ventilator. Due to the severity of the illness, he suffered several massive seizures that were undetected until his body could withstand an MRI. This resulted in massive brain death that he unfortunately will not be able to recover from. The amount of damage to his brain is so significant that the doctors say it is worse than most dementia patients they see.

Brandon will be 31 years old when his family (an already very ill mother, his only sister, his fiancee of 6 years, an a beautiful 10 month old baby boy who is his pride and joy) has to say goodbye to the person they should have had so many more years with. The extremely devastating and sudden turn of events have left the family in severe distress.

We are posting this in the hopes of helping to ease their burden as his sister will be the primary care giver to a family of four now. As this came so suddenly there was no time to prepare for the end of life expenses. His final medical bills, the celebration of life and cremation services, per his requests, are going to put a huge financial strain on an already struggling family.
