Dear Family and Friends:

I am coming to you to ask your assistance with my educational pursuit.   My name is Brandon Watts, son of Angelia Watts, and a 2015 graduate of Cajon High School in San Bernardino, CA.   While attending Cajon I participated in several campus clubs and organizations such as Mock Trial, Journalism (writing articles for the school newspaper), Best Buddies (mentoring special needs students), BSU, Drama Dept, Make a Wish club, and was President of the 2015 Socialites Beautillion.  I also co-founded a club on campus called "Black Talk" where students could gather to discuss the hot topics happening in our community and around the world.

In 2010 I traveled to Ghana, West Africa, where I was able to experience the richness of African culture that would impact and change my life.  While there, I visited the Elmina Slave Castle, the home and resting place of W.E.B Dubois, and addressed the African children on the importance of education.

I recently took first place in the "Day of King" essay competition with an article that I wrote on my dream for improving my community.  That article was published in The Sun Newspaper which is available for you to read: http://www.sbsun.com/social-affairs/20150411/students-dreaming-to-be-great-again .

I am extremely excited to share with you that I have been accepted to Howard University for the fall 2015 semester.  Howard is located in Washington D.C.  I will be majoring in Political Science, with a minor in Philosophy/African American Studies.   It is my dream to become a civil rights attorney and to make a difference in our judicial system.  Since I was 15 years old, It has been my dream to attend one of our nation’s Historical Black Colleges or Universities (HBCU).   As you can imagine, the cost of attending Howard University will be a tremendous sacrifice on my mother.   As a single parent, my mom has worked hard raising me, and I am extremely grateful for all that she has done.

I have been awarded several scholarships to date; however, I still need $5862.00 to pay my full balance by August 15th.  I am asking my family and friends to please consider making a donation of $25 or more to assist with my educational expenses.  If you desire to write a check, please make it out to me, Brandon Watts, and send it to me at:

PO Box 21006
San Bernardino, CA
 92406

Your generous contribution will assist me as I pursue my dreams.   My mom and I thank you in advance for your consideration, and may God continue to bless you!

Sincerely,
Brandon
