Hello,
Our son, Brandon Guse, is currently 22 years old and has been struggling with his health since age 11. He now needs three transplants (bone marrow, kidney, and liver).
At age 11, he was diagnosed with GPA vasculitis (Wegener's Disease) which caused stage 3 kidney disease. This has progressed to kidney failure and dialysis.
Since then he has also been diagnosed with CVID (immune deficiency), ITP (low platelets), and aplastic anemia (bone marrow failure). Recently, he was diagnosed with a rare liver disease (nodular regenerative hyperplasia with portal hypertension) which is causing blood to ooze into his stomach.
Despite the fact that he has been on homebound schooling since 8th grade, Brandon recently graduated from high school in the class of 2023. He hopes to go to Murray State University possibly majoring in accounting. He is currently taking the year off due to his health problems.
Brandon will be evaluated for transplant at the Starlz Transplant Institute at UPMC in March (he was referred here from the Mayo Clinic). All donations will go to cover travel and lodging costs for his evaluation, his transplant trips, and other medical related expenses. When he does have his transplant, Brandon and his mother will have to stay in the Pittsburgh area for approximately 100 days. Any additional funds collected will go towards other medical expenses or towards his education at Murray State.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.
