Brandon's Ironman Donations for AA-MDS

Hello! My name is Brandon Terwege and on April 27th I will be participating in my first full Ironman race! Each year I have a goal to do a physical activity for a cause. This year I am raising money for Aplastic Anemia and MDS International (AA-MDS) in honor of Audrey Gronberg and her inspiring road to recovery through a bone marrow transplant from her older sister, Morgan.

Audrey was diagnosed with Aplastic Anemia (bone marrow failure) in December of 2020. Her marrow wasn’t making any white blood cells (which fight infection), red blood cells (which carry oxygen), or platelets (which stop bleeding/let blood clot). Neither of her siblings, Morgan or Will, were a 100% match (both 50%) and only 1 person was a match on the unrelated donor register (but she was older/not ideal donor). So- she had IST (immunosuppressive treatment) and received a medication called hATG. She responded and was in remission for 3 years! But after Thanksgiving 2023, she relapsed. She then underwent bone marrow transplant at Medical City Children's in Dallas with Morgan as her Haplo donor!

While we were hoping she would be in remission after her first treatment forever, we are so thankful for her wonderful doctors and nurses and a cure for this terrible disease. We are relying on our faith and have a Peace to carry us all through. Please pray for our sweet Audrey and for HEALING!!
