Brandons Happiness,35yrs Brain cancer and stroke.

Hello, I am Jayme and I am Brandon's wife of nearly a year and a half and best friend for the last 10 years. I am reaching out to you as my husband has fallen terminally ill with brain cancer and unfortunately has not responded well to treatment. Brandon was diagnosed in April 2022 and had brain surgery on May 16th, 2022, he had a stroke during surgery and is permanently paralyzed on his left side from neck to toe. On October 10th, 2021 Brandon and I had a lovely covid wedding in our backyard, we were supposed to get married in Hawaii in March 2020 but we all know what happened to that. Instead, we decided to wait it out until April 2022 and call it our honeymoon or after/way after party. On April 23rd I woke up around 3:30 am and saw the light in the bathroom on, I then discovered Brandon on the floor seizing. We proceeded to bring him to the Kona Hawaii hospital where they performed CT scans and MRIs, the doctor came into the room and said, "your holiday is over", and that you have a mass the size of a tennis ball in your head. He seemed as stunned as us as Brandon had never had any prior symptoms in his life. The island we were on did not have a neurology unit so Brandon was emergency evacuated via helicopter to the island of Maui, where both his mother and I flew to and stayed at a hotel nearby. He was in the ICU for two days and was not cleared to return to Canada unless there was a bed back in Edmonton but most importantly he needed a nurse on board with him at all times (altitude is not friendly to brain tumours). We finally arrived in Canada after a very traumatic experience overseas, but this was just the beginning of our cancer journey. As I mentioned before Brandon had a biopsy to determine the grade and had a stroke which took his entire left side which also was his dominant side. He has grade 2 Glioblastoma and after spending nearly two months at a rehabilitation hospital he underwent radiation, at this point, we are on round 4 of oral chemotherapy praying for any news of remission. Brandon was a stand-up comedian and he has always been the life of the party, he always wants to make people smile and think outside the norm. He is a loving husband, uncle, son, friend, and brother and he deserves nothing but the love and smiles he has always given to the people around him.

I have been Brandon's caregiver since April 2022 and have not been able to return to work, Brandon is now on CPPD and will not be able to return to work. We are also receiving bills from our travel insurance for costs accumulated (such as the emergency evac on the helicopter) while in the United States that did not end up being approved for coverage. As a result, there are thousands of dollars owed and the medical bills don't stop. As far as home life goes we are requiring some renovations to our washrooms to make them more accessible so that Brandon can independently shower or have a bath safely.

Any support for Brandon would be so much appreciated, I don't want him worried about finances all I want for him is to enjoy the things that we can do with whatever time we have been given together.

Thank you,
Jayme and Brandon.
