Hi family, friends, and community -
We started this gofundme page to help build awareness, gain support, and as a tribute to Brandon.
Brandon’s Story:
Brandon was diagnosed with a brain condition called Arteriovenous Malformation at the age of 16, which is an abnormal connection between arteries and veins in his brain, resulting in a lack of oxygen and blood flow to his heart. Over the last 10 years, this has severely impacted Brandon’s life, his ability to live independently and pursue his dreams. His health has been steadily declining and he’s slowly lost physical ability on the left side of his body.
In late August, Brandon fell and hit his head and immediately started having back-to-back seizures. He was rushed to the hospital and learned he had an aneurysm causing a brain hemorrhage. The doctors put him into a medically induced coma to control the seizures and keep him safe. He was in a coma for about 2 ½ weeks, during which he developed a lung infection, eye infection, and many other health issues.
After a month of being in the hospital, Brandon is learning how to walk again in an occupational rehab facility. He is working hard to build back his strength to be able to get back on his feet after these extremely difficult last few months. He is a fighter and has made incredible progress in this time. Several doctors on his team at NYU Langone Hospital have said Brandon is truly a medical miracle. His brain was able to heal the aneurysm and brain bleed without an operation. The fact that he is here with us is a miracle.
Brandon has been living in New York for the last three years after graduating from Seattle University in 2017. Brandon is a true entrepreneur and was trying to promote his modeling career along with other endeavors such as surfing and public speaking. As many of you know, Brandon has a HUGE heart and will always extend a helping hand to those he loves. He has a quick witty sense of humor and is able to connect with everyone he meets. His condition has never stopped him from his curiosity of life, always trying new things, meeting new people, traveling, and saying yes to every adventure he can.
Brandon recently started as an intern at Neuronerd where he has been advocating for greater awareness of seizure disorders, which has brought him a lot of support and connection. Brandon is truly an incredible person and we want to prioritize his happiness and provide him with the best care possible in this next chapter of his life.
The Next Steps:
As Brandon transitions out of rehab in the coming weeks, his sister Courtney will be his primary caregiver, roommate, best friend, and sister. But this is no small feat as she will need all the assistance/support possible to be able to give her brother the best care and love she can! He went into the hospital able to live independently, and he will be returning needing help with nearly all of his daily tasks.
We are asking for donations to help support his medical needs over the next few months and to help support his basic needs.
Currently, these include:
- Rent
- In-home care
- Medical bills
- Therapy bills
- Medical supplies/ handicap accommodations
- Moving into an apartment with an elevator
If you are able, please donate what you can to help support the Schneiders. If a monetary donation is not possible for you, please feel free to send your well-wishes, thoughts, and prayers, or to share this page with anyone else in your community who might be able to help. We are forever grateful for the outpouring of love Brandon has received.
