On Monday, June 15th 2020 my brother suffered a tragic incident that lead to cardiac arrest and subsequently was without oxygen to his brain for an unknown amount of time.
EMS was able to revive him and upon arriving at the hospital they administered Hypothermia Protocol in hopes to preserve his organs and remaining neurological functionality.
Wednesday, June 17th 2020 he was re-warmed and the sedation was weened. When he was fully off of sedation there was no response, even with basic things like blinking and gagging in response to stimulation.
The next few hours would prove to be the worst I’ve personally ever experienced. After speaking with the Intensivist doctor as well as the Neurologist, I was informed that Brandon has 0% chance of recovery. They stated that his brain was herniating and would eventually swell past capacity of his skull, causing his spinal cord to be effected, ultimately stopping his heart.
We have held on the last couple of days, hoping for a miracle. Yesterday, June 20th, I was approached to discuss end of life care. He is reliant on life support and they’ve stated this will always be the case.
I wanted to use this as a way to provide an update and insight. The last week has been challenging and the coming days will prove to be the hardest of my life I expect.
I’ve had many questions in regards to donations and am starting this to have a centralized location for those donations to be made. I’d like to give my brother a proper send off, if it comes to that, and some type of small memorial service.
Brandon has an (almost) 2 year old son that is in the care of our family and now, that will be long term. Anything additional will be utilized for him to have a rememberance of his dad and anything else he may need.
If there are any questions, I can be contacted here.
Thank you for the continuing outpouring of love and support.
