Brandon Lockwood’s Battle

On September 21st our lives were turned upside down in an instant. I was on the phone with my husband as I was on my way home from work, having a normal conversation when all of a sudden everything changed. He had suffered a stroke while on the phone with me. I rushed the rest of the way home and took him to the hospital. After several scans and an MRI later, the doctors were able to confirm he suffered a stroke. We are fortunate in the fact that all his motor skills were not impacted but the stroke targeted the language center of his brain, leaving it difficult for him to understand and communicate properly. This is what the speech therapist said is called Aphasia. Unfortunately he is outside of his coverage window for insurance and we are left with all the medical bills plus therapy sessions on our own. While his work is looking into holding his job for him when he is able to return, we are left without his income for an undetermined amount of time. I am sharing his story with all of you, hoping for a little help. If you know us, that is something we don’t ask for normally. We are grateful for whatever the good Lord blesses us with and we know He has a path for us to follow. We are truly grateful for whatever donations and help we do receive.

Update 9/27/22
Every day seems like one step forward and two steps back. We have a long road to travel but we’ll get there. We received confirmation that he will not be able to go back to work for a full year! A full year!! That one took a minute to sick in. Tomorrow is his first evaluation with speech therapy so we’re looking forward to what they have to say. There is a lot of work to do on my end, making phone calls and looking into all the programs out there that can help. Lord give me strength!

Update 9/28/22
We met with the speech therapist yesterday and while he has made a lot of progress from when she saw him in the hospital he has a lot of work to do. There are things he can do at home everyday to help exercise his brain. She is recommending therapy once a week for now to see how he does with the at home work. Continued support and prayers are greatly appreciated.
