Brandon Holley's medical bills and family expenses

Donation protected
Brandon Holley is a Volunteer Firefighter/EMT with the Wooster Fire Department and is employed full-time as a Water Operator for the City of Wooster Water Department.  On January 31, 2019, Brandon Holley began feeling ill and came home from work sick.  He went to his doctor and tested positive for the flu.  After three doctor’s visits, various prescriptions, and being sick for ten days with a constant fever that regularly spiked, he had to be taken to the Emergency Room at Conway Regional Medical Center.  It was determined that the flu had brought about pneumonia which became bacterial pneumonia (staph infection) and it was discovered that his spleen was enlarged.  He was admitted to the hospital for ongoing treatment and his blood was regularly checked for sepsis.

Since Brandon had recently returned from a medical mission trip in the mountainous jungle of Costa Rica, they had to perform other test and take additional isolation precautions to rule out other infectious diseases.  The tests for parasites and tuberculosis all came back negative.  He has been receiving antibiotics and fluids from IVs nearly around the clock since he was admitted to the hospital.  Brandon has been in the hospital for over nine days now and having good days and bad days.  Fevers are still occurring, and x-rays of his lungs are still showing spots of pneumonia.  Brandon’s body has endured a lot and he has lost twenty-two pounds since he first became ill.  Despite what he’s gone through he is staying in good spirits.  He is going stir-crazy being confined to a hospital bed in a tiny room and would much rather be up and working.

Brandon has been unable to work for the past two and a half weeks.  Hopefully he will be healed soon and able to return home from the hospital.  Once he does, he’ll need time to fully recover by building his strength and his weight back up.  His wife, Crystal, has had to take off work to stay by Brandon’s side and care for him.  Without their regular income, and a mountain of medical bills soon to be on the way, it has placed them in a financial bind.  The financial strain is further exacerbated by the fact that they had just finished paying off the medical bills from their daughter’s ankle injury and paid out of pocket for Brandon’s travel expenses for the recent medical mission journey to remote villages in Costa Rica.

Brandon and Crystal have two elementary school-aged children.  They are a family of good, hard-working Christian people.  They are not accustomed to needing to accept help.  In fact, quite the opposite is true.  Brandon and his family are often the ones helping others.  Brandon is one of the most active and dedicated volunteers with the Wooster Fire Department and responds to more calls than just about everyone else on the department.  He regularly volunteers his time to help members of the community who are experiencing an emergency and does so without receiving any sort of compensation.

With the permission of Brandon’s family, this account is being created and overseen by Assistant Chief Steven Hopwood of the Wooster Fire Department.  The purpose is to gather donations that will be used to help pay for Brandon’s extensive medical bills and his family’s living expenses that are arising from him being unable to work.  Any donation you can contribute is greatly appreciated.  If you are unable to donate, that is understandable.  Please pray for Brandon and his family and please help spread the word by sharing this page.  Thank you for your time!
