Sarah is a former colleague and has been a friend of mine for awhile. She has two boys, Brandon (younger) and Ryan (older), who are the lights of her life.
Just a couple weeks ago, Brandon was diagnosed with a synovial sarcoma tumor positioned on his aorta - a horrifying location for a tumor (well, any location is horrifying, frankly). The option for immediate surgery was rejected due to the location and size of the tumor, so the treatment plan is chemo, followed with radiation, in order to shrink the size of the tumor.
Here's the timeline: Brandon will be going though the chemo once every three weeks for 4 to 6 months - each chemo treatment is 4 days in length. Then he'll be undergoing radiation therapy for 5 weeks. After that, the surgeons will assess if surgery can be scheduled or if more therapy is needed.
This has definitely been a major life curveball for Sarah and her family on top of another recent curveball, where she was laid off from work (pre-Covid), so the need for help with medical bills is all too real.
Brandon and Sarah are in a tough situation with this, and I know there are many people out there that are ready and willing to help. So let's do what we can to offset the costs so that they can focus on being mentally and physically strong and kicking this cancer out!
