Hi friends and family,
As most of you know, in early December, after over 3 years of bouts of extreme pain, several misdiagnosis's, countless Dr. appointments, and emergency room visits, my mom was finally given a colonoscopy she had been asking for. During the colonoscopy, they found a large mass almost completely plugging her colon. She has stage 3 colon cancer!
They scheduled an emergency surgery for 5 days later. On the evening of the 4th night, she became severely ill and we almost lost her in the ambulance on the way to the ER. The surgery to remove a large portion of her colon and 47 lymph-nodes was preformed, they think successfully, on December 11th.
On January 10th, she started Chemo therapy. She is employed at the Camas School District. The chemo affects her immune system and she can't get sick. So, she is unable to work until at least September of next school year.
In March of 2018, my dad also had an emergency surgery. With 2 emergency surgeries in 2018 and now chemo starting in 2019, they have to pay max out of pocket insurance 2 years in a row. 2-4 trips to Kaiser cancer center in downtown Portland and appointments at Cascade park each week. its all becoming a strain and stress on them both.
I have moved home from school in Walla Walla to take care of my mom at night when my dad is at work and I enrolled at PSU for Spring. My dad is thinking about a 2nd job to pay for all of these expenses. He refuses to ask for assistance. So, I have started this page to see if we can help some financially, to enable them to focus 100% on this fight my mom has ahead of her and her recovery, more so than Dr. bills that keep coming in and 2nd jobs.
Everyone has been so great and so supportive! If you can't assist in this, that is 100% okay! I know everyone has something going on in life. I just ask that you send my mom positive thoughts and prayers to tackle this battle! She's tough and anyone who knows her, knows she'll beat this, just as she has MS these last 16 years (yes, MS too, she can't buy a break)!
