Brand New “Eyes” for Bentley

Donation protected

Hello! My name is Danielle Roberson and I am raising funds for my 3 year old Pembroke Welsh Corgi, Bentley.

— OUR STORY —

1.5 years ago I rescued Bentley from a bad situation in Seattle, WA where he was neglected and abused. He had very little confidence and trust at the beginning of his new life.

It was then my mission to show Bentley that the world isn’t all that bad and to help him raise his self-confidence. Through obedience, trick and agility training Bentley’s confidence sky rocketed and he has been a huge inspiration to everyone that has met him and seen his personal growth. Bentley is an incredible boy.

We were about to earn his first agility title when the crisis hit... it started with a squinting eye that wasn’t getting better so I took him to the emergency vet. Conjunctivitis was the diagnosis. A week later and things weren’t getting better. Something just wasn’t right and Bentley’s vision was very clearly impaired. I was heartbroken as I experienced him run right into the wall.

The next morning I made an appointment with the Ophthalmologist and we had an appointment in 1 week. The same day I took him to the regular vet to see if there was anything they could do to help while we wait to see the eye specialist. Uveitis (inflammation of the iris) was the diagnosis this time and we were sent home with steroid eye drops and some antibiotics.

The next week we make it to the Ophthalmologist hoping for good news. Sometimes injuries get worse before they get better.

Unfortunately, this was not the case for Bentley. By the time we saw the specialist the damage has already been done. Glaucoma is the culprit. Bentley’s eye pressure was at 54 (10-20 are normal eye pressure levels) and his vision was totally gone.

Bentley’s right eye had to be removed the next morning. We were told the left eye was showing abnormalities and that the doctors are fighting aggressively to try to save his vision in the left eye. A histopathology will tell us what is going on in the right eye in hopes to save the left eye.

Another week goes by and Bentley’s left eye isn’t looking good. Back to the specialist we go and his eye pressure in his left eye is 43. Alternative glaucoma drops were able to bring the pressure down to 35.

Dr. Kaiser at the Animal Eye Clinic of Spokane let us know that the chances of recovering his vision is very very slim to none. His vision is already gone. The best we can do is keep the pressure down and wait for the results from the histopathology as to whether or not his left eye should also be removed.

— HOW THE MONEY WILL BE SPENT —

The money raised will help to cover the cost of the ophthalmologist initial exam, emergency enucleation surgery, medication, and a second enucleation surgery:

Ophthalmologist Initial Exam + Medication: $482

Emergency Enucleation Surgery + Medication: $1023.81

Second Enucleation Surgery: $700

Training and Certification to become a therapy dog where we will visit
children’s hospitals and senior centers as our new meaning in life. AKC has a therapy dog program where we can earn Therapy Dog Titles: https://www.akc.org/sports/title-recognition-program/therapy-dog-program/

After the specialist, the surgeries, and certifications are done and there are any funds left, I will be donating the rest to Murci's Mission here in Spokane, Washington. They are a certified non-profit rescue that focuses on helping animals regardless of the situation they are found in. www.murcismission.org

I, Danielle Roberson, am not making a profit nor benefiting from the money raised. All the funds raised go straight to supporting Bentley and his quality of life. From the day I rescued him I made Bentley a promise that I would be there for him through thick and thin and provide him with the care he deserves.

This is for Bentley. He is on his way to feeling himself again.

Again, thank you so so much for your help. And remember ANYTHING helps! Even if it’s just $1 we appreciate your generosity!

You can also help just by sharing this on your social media outlets such as Facebook and Twitter.

Much love,
Bentley & Danielle
