Brand New Ari: Support this Artist's Top Surgery Journey!

Hi y'all! Big news: I'm getting top surgery this month! It's also extremely close, like two weeks from now, on April 22nd. Scary but exciting! The reality though is that most insurance companies still consider top surgery to be simply cosmetic, so I'm going to have to pay out of pocket. I've already paid the deposit to secure the date of surgery and will pay the rest of the medical fees on my upcoming pre-operative visit on April 14th.

For the curious, here's a breakdown of costs:

As a kinda closet nonbinary trans guy, having a more masculine chest has been on my mind for years, but I've usually been too busy with my career to really consider going through with it.

Very recently, however, I got laid off from my longtime job of 6 years around September of last year, which has been hard both financially and emotionally. But I've found the silver lining of the past six months since then has been having the time and space for introspection and healing. It's a time to consider doing something important for myself that I haven't been able to do before!

So yeah, it's taken a while to get here, but I think it's time to do this! With this surgery, I'll be able to tackle the daily anxiety I feel having breasts, impeding my ability to feel comfortable in my body. I'm looking forward to going to the gym more often, wearing cute clothes, and actually sorta recognizing myself in the mirror.
