I am Lorena Saelices Gomez, and Yasmin is a member of my laboratory at UTSW. Her little brother (14 years old) was just diagnosed with a rare brain tumor while they were visiting Los Angeles. They couldn't transfer him to UTSW because of the medical risks of transportation. So he went through surgery at UCLA and is now in the ICU for post-surgery recovery. Both parents had to be on leave and do not have any income at the moment. They are all in Los Angeles, without any family or friends support, with all the expenses that come with it. Not only are they facing exuberant bills and incredible personal pain, but they are stuck in LA until Yasmin's little brother fully recovers.
