Brain Surgery for Jonathan

My dear friend Jonathan is in need of a major surgery, and needs the help of his friends to help raise money to help cover the cost of his surgery due to his health insurance provider is not willing to cover the cost of the surgery specialist for this type of surgery.  And this type of surgery has a very high risk due to the location of the angioma, and is why Jonathan is seeking to work with this specialist. 

Below is a brief description of Jonathan’s situation to date :

 Last summer Jonathan began having simple-partial seizures that caused episodes of on/off paralysis of the left side of his body, which then led to a hospital stay and diagnosis of a cavernous malformation, an angioma (2cm vascular tumor) located in his brain's motor cortex. It's benign but still problematic as it's prone to bleeding and, if left untreated, could lead to permanent brain damage resulting in loss of mobility among other "difficulties".

As a short-term fix, he's been able to resume day-to-day life for the most part with seizure medicine but suffers from intense headaches fairly regularly, even one that led to another emergency room visit a few months ago.

Jonathan requires surgery to remove the angioma and has been referred to a surgeon/institute in Phoenix who specializes in his particular condition.

The reason for the 9ish months of time since the diagnosis and this post, is due to the fact that Jonathan's insurance (a non traditional private sharing group) has been unwilling to cover the surgery at the location/surgeon that he not only wants, and is the world authority for his specific type of vascular tumor, but also the one that his neurologist recommended. This "battle" with his insurance has been quite drawn out, difficult and costly and is still uncertain. Though, at this time it looks as if they are starting to negotiating the coverage of some of the VERY costly surgery itself, but there are still unknowns and a lot of medical bills piled up along with the other many extra expenses, including paying for travel to and from Phoenix, a hotel for his wife during his hospital stay and for both of them during part of his recovery before he's cleared to travel home, and the several weeks/mo away from his business while recovering.
