Second Chance

Second Chance Headway Centre is a local, Wakefield based charity who specialise in providing support to people with brain injuries. As a hidden disability, it is often misunderstood and therefore difficult for people to get the help they so desperately need. We are a small multi-disciplinary team who are passionate about the charity and the work that we do. We are the only service of our kind, providing support over the whole of Yorkshire and sometimes even further. We have been supporting adults with brain injuries for over 40 years, and our ethos is:

“If a life is worth saving, then it must be worth living”

Our members and their families rely on us to provide not only specialist brain injury support and rehabilitation, but the comfort in the knowledge that somebody out there understands what they are going through, and that they are not alone during what can be a catastrophic life changing time. We continuously strive to help people reach their goals, whether that is being able to make a cup of tea, travel on a bus independently, read a book to their children, getting back to work or even climbing Ben Nevis.

Last year we supported more than 350 adults as well as their families and carers either through attendance of our day centre, community visits or remote support over the phone.

Due to the current situation with Covid-19, we have seen a drastic reduction in incoming revenue and are having to find new, creative ways to help ensure we can continue to provide the vital support that so many people depend on.

With a second lockdown ahead, Christmas around the corner (a time that is difficult for many of the people we support) and new referrals coming in weekly, our support is needed now more than ever.
