Brad's Lung Transplant

Hi my name is Brad Dykstra and I'm fundraising for help to pay for my Lung Transplant. I never thought I would be dealing with such a disabling disease as pulmonary fibrosis. To extend my life the only way is to have a transplant.

Back in 2019 I had a CT scan after multiple bouts of pneumonia in Minnesota. After the scan I was called immediately and made appointments with the University of MN hospital. There i was diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension and interstitial lung disease. I went on disability and then we decided to move to Burlington Wisconsin to be close to family. Eventually the Dr.'s here recommended me for a lung transplant and the process started after I lost 100 pounds. I have not smoked anything and the cause of my illness is unknown.

Unfortunately nothing is ever easy. Extra costs with transportation, lodging and being away from home will be a challenge. Everything takes time and very expensive drugs to keep me alive. Help is needed now as we are getting close to being called to the hospital.

My insurance has approved for me to have the surgery at University of Wisconsin Medical Center in Madison Wisconsin. The hospital is the only lung transplant center of excellence in the state.

I have a great transplant team of Dr.'s. I have had many appointments and hospital tests to get me this far into the process. Lodging and transportation costs are great as I am required to stay in Madison four to six weeks after the transplant for additional testing to check for infection and rejection. My wife Cheryl, will be staying in town while i am in the hospital for 2 weeks too and then with me until I go home. I have a great support team.

I thank you in advance. Personally I never thought that this would ever happen to me. I am hoping for prayers and great vibes thru this process. After I get home i'll need to make 2 trips to Madison per week for routine tests. All this additional expense adds up.
