Baby Braden's Road To Recovery

Donation protected
As the anticipation and excitement grew so did the fear and uncertainty of how their precious unborn baby boy would do....

Braden was diagnosed in utero with what they thought was a duodenal atresia (a blockage in his intestines). They were told he would need to have corrective surgery right after birth, and that his recovery time would be anywhere between 4-6 weeks.  Due to the atresia, it caused  polyhydramnios (too much amniotic fluid) which lead to complications within the pregnancy and ultimately a preterm delivery.

Braden Michael Vigil made his beautiful presence into this world on Jan. 23rd 2016 at 35 weeks (5 weeks early).  On Jan 24th, not even one day old he underwent a 7 1/2 hour surgery at Children's Hospital to remove the atresia.  At that time his Surgeon discovered that he did not only have duodenal atresia but also a proximal jejunal atresia (3 additional blockages within the jejunal portion of his intestine).  After this finding they were told that Braden would require an additional surgery as the Surgeon could not repair all of the blockages at once. He also told them it would require 6-8 weeks so that Braden could grow more and he could save more of his bowel.  His next surgery is anticipated for the middle of March 2016 and will require another 6-8 weeks for recovery at the Children's Hospital.

This adorable, strong little boy has had to undergo a 7 1/2 hour surgery, receive nutrition through an IV, had a port placed in is chest as well as a central line going into his heart; yet day after day he continues to amaze us all with his strength and bravery.

Braden has a long road to recovery ahead of him and his family could use all the support possible.  Both mom and dad have been at his bedside in the N.I.C.U. (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) since his birth.  This unexpected stay in the hospital has impacted the family not only emotionally but financially as well.  They have 3 beautiful girls, they have burned through their paid time off, they are emotionally drained and bills continue to pile up. Any amount of help would be greatly appreciated during these trying times.
