Please help Brad and Edy!

Our friends Brad Smith and Edy Westcott suddenly lost their home in Talent, Oregon to the devastating Almeda Fire this week.

Thankfully, they are safe. Brad and Edy were able to escape the fire, but it quickly took their home and pretty much everything in it.  The fire spread rapidly, and they were fortunate just to be able to save themselves and the pets they love so much.

Years of family memories, as well as nearly all of their belongings, are GONE. They have temporarily found shelter, but will need our help as they essentially start from scratch to rebuild a home together.

Brad and I first connected over 10 years ago when we were both writing for the Examiner. Brad is a fantastic writer and incredibly passionate about the subjects he covers as a freelance journalist. Edy is the light of his life, and so many of us are rooting for this special couple who've already been through so much.

Cancelled Wedding Plans

This isn't the first hardship to hit Brad and Edy this year. They also had to cancel the wedding they were so excited about due to the coronavirus. Edy lost her job due to the pandemic, and now that unemployment benefits have been reduced, money is tighter than ever.

Brad and Edy are relying on us to start over again. The funds we raise will go toward expenses for a new place, including upfront costs like rent on a new home and deposits for utilities, along with replacing all of the daily essentials for their home that so many of us take for granted.

Being displaced during the pandemic is just one more setback in what has already been a tough year for this couple we're all rooting for.

Many of you know Brad has CHF (congestive heart failure.) The last thing he needs to be worrying about is the stress of how to pay for their new beginning.  He and Edy are both high-risk during this pandemic due to medical issues and need the security of knowing they have a safe place to stay and money to replace the essential items they lost while they're isolated at home.

They can't replace everything they've lost.

Not the treasured items that belonged to both of their fathers and other family members who are no longer with us. All the sentimental items that make up a life over the years are gone. So many cherished memories. This is breaking their hearts. We can barely even imagine how hard that must be for them.

But you and I can help them make a fresh start with a little less stress.

Let's help these two lovebirds and show them what true friendship looks like!
