Br. Rene D. Roy Scholarship Fund – A Legacy of Care

Thirty years ago, a man stepped out of his comfort zone to answer a call to serve in a land far from his home in the United States. He traveled to Rwanda in the aftermath of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, not knowing what to expect, but with a simple and courageous "yes" to a mission of service.

Brother Rene D. Roy arrived in Rwanda as a teacher, an educator, and a Marist Brother. Before long, he became much more than that. He became a mentor, a father figure, and a source of hope for countless young Rwandans.

But perhaps what made Brother Rene so extraordinary was this:

**He opened doors.**

He saw potential where others saw limitations. He believed in young people before they believed in themselves. He searched tirelessly for opportunities and secured full scholarships for dozens of Rwandan students to study in the United States.

Those students went on to become physicians, nurses, educators, engineers, entrepreneurs, and leaders. Today, they continue serving their communities across Rwanda and around the world. His investment in their lives continues to multiply through every life they touch.

The Br. Rene D. Roy Scholarship Fund was established by his former students and friends to continue that legacy of care by helping young people from underprivileged backgrounds in Rwanda pursue an education.
