Unfortunately Zeus has been put down after over a week of pain and suffering in the hospital with no results. Thank you so much to everyone who tried to help us with zeus’s recovery.
Hi, my name is Tyler. Im 18 years old, and my mom and I recently adopted a 3 month old puppy named Zeus. As soon as we got home, he was having diarrhea and seemed extremely sad and weak. People assured us this was normal for a puppy in a new home. However, after waking up to a house covered in bloody feces, we rushed him to the vet (less than 24 hours after adopting him). The vet informed us that he had parvo, and they rushed him to the emergency clinic to put Zeus on life support. (the shelter stated he was tested negative for parvo when we adopted him) Zeus has had to stay at the ER for multiple days, and it’s already costed us a ridiculous $6,500 which is likely to be more soon.
Any donations would help, as we don’t have the money for this, but we can’t afford to let a puppy die.
More Details: If you have time please view the additional details below for a better understanding of the situation and why we need help.
IMPORTANT: Shelter said he was tested negative for parvo and will not provide any financial help. They also assured us multiple times he WAS NOT SICK when we were at the adoption place.
Virus Info: Parvo is a highly contagious and extremely fatal virus most common in puppy’s. If left untreated, there is a 91% mortality rate within only 48-72 hours.
Treatment Info: Zeus has been quarantined at the ER for days. He’s hooked up to multiple tubes providing him with fluids, and even a feeding tube through his nose. The vets have to keep careful watch over how due to the severity of this virus. Due to the contagiousness of it, we aren’t even allowed to visit him.
Costs: Just for the first 3 days we have been charged $6,500 which is expected to increase as time goes on.
Important Details / More Info: On Thursday, at 11 AM we officially adopted a adorable 3 month old Belgian Shepherd / Collie mix puppy named bob (who we renamed to Zeus). At the shelter he was very mellow and looked scared. When my mom asked if he was sick and why he was not playing, they told us that other puppy’s in his litter would “beat the shit out of him” if he tried to play. Still skeptical my mom asked them multiple times if he was sick, and they kept reassuring us he was completely fine. We wanted to help the poor dog have a more loving home where he didn’t have to be scared, and could reveal his true colors. We took him home right then and there. Immediately, we noticed that he wasn’t even interested in exploring the house, and just lied there still on the room as I pet him for almost a hour. Finally, he got up, and we rushed him outside assuming he had to pee. However, we noticed that he looked at us and then crawled into a pile of big plant leaves in the back of the yard where he nervously had diarrhea. Afterwords he took less than 3 steps and just laid down again. This continued until the night but people assured us that this was common for dogs in a new house, and even the shelter we adopted from said to wait until Tuesday. (Keep in mind parvo is 91% lethal in 48-72 hours if left untreated. So our brand new puppy would have been dead before the weekend was over.) We went to bed skeptical that night but after waking up to floor covered in bloody feces, we rushed him to the vet less than 24 hours after we brought him home. They told us he had a deadly virus named parvo and had to relocate him to a quarantined area at the pet ER. They told my mom it would probably be a few thousand, (which she can’t afford) but she didn’t want to let the puppy die so she paid it. Additionally, even if we did pay the vet bills, they told us there was a possibility he wouldn’t make it. Zeus has been there for 4-5 days now and we have been worried out of our minds praying for him every single day. The medical costs keep racking up more and more, and we are already at $6,500 and climbing. We are not even allowed to see the poor dog, and can’t do anything besides hope and pray for the best. Over these days we learned a few things, first that newer strands of parvo can be contagious to cats (we have 3). Second, Zeus also had ROUND WORMS, which are extremely contagious to humans and cats. We are extremely scared that our cats will become sick, and we just cannot afford these medical costs. One of our cats already had bloody diarrhea and has been acting strange. Hopefully it’s just a fluke, but if our cats get sick, I don’t know what we will do.
Our situation: My mom just recently helped me out a lot with college costs, and she does not have the money for this. I really want to help her but I’m only 18 so I’m praying that if anyone has the spare money, they can help out a little. I hope that setting this up, I can help my mom out in some way, as she has always helped animals in need and taken care of me as a single parent.
GOAL: Our goal is currently set to $10,000 to help Zeus with his medical bills. Any extra money not used will be donated to a animal rescue, or another go fund me animal.
UPDATE: I will keep updates posted here frequently.
6/27 - 7:30 PM: Vet called and said that his white blood cell count has decreased and he is at extreme risk for infections. They said he has a “long way to go” and the best option is to keep him in hospital which will cost even more.
6/28 - 1:00 PM: Vet called and recommended putting him down unless we can afford to keep him in there for 4-5 more days which they say he will have a good shot of recovery. We were billed $2,000 for another 48 hours.

6/29 - 11:00 AM: Sadly, as of this morning the doctor called and said that physically he doesn’t look any better. However, they did say that he seems like he has more fight in him today. Hopefully, this could be the start of a change for the better. Once again thank you all so much, for all of your kind thoughts and contributions.
