Toxic relationships, body image issues, mental health struggles, and feeling like an outsider within the queer community are all topics we explore in “Flames”; a dramatic thriller told through visual storytelling.
Hi everyone! Our names are Hailey Mauk, John Taylor Goodwin, and Ari Mauk and we are the passionate filmmaking team behind “Flames”. Hailey and John, the writer-director team, birthed this concept during a beach day together and then poured their hearts and souls into the writing process. Along with Ari, the cinematographer and editor, we have worked incredibly hard to plan every detail in order to tell this story in a way that resonates most with the audience. Our mission for this film is to hold up a mirror to viewers in hopes of creating conversation and self reflection.

After almost two years since the beginning of this journey, we all feel confident and thrilled about creating this film with the incredible cast and crew we are putting together. However we need help to make it the best it can possibly be! Any donation helps provide needed equipment, locations, set decoration, film festival submissions, and more! We were inspired by the visually stunning and character motivated films “Waves”, “Passages”, “Close”, and “Aftersun”. The rawness of human behavior captured in each of these films has motivated us to tell this story in the most truthful and uninhibited way possible.
One way we want to showcase this is through a pivotal moment of the film which takes place in an alluring, vibrant club. We'll be utilizing long tracking shots as well as a few oners, making the club scenes artistically challenging but exciting to tackle.
We are so eager to start shooting and eventually share this with all of you. We hope this film and these characters resonate with you in some way. Thank you all so much for your support on this journey! Updates to come!
