Leslie/Preston Frieder, house lost

Our dear friends, Leslie and Preston Frieder, recently lost their rental home in the Paradise fire in
Northern California. 

They are caregivers for Leslie's mother.  At 8:45 am on Nov. 8th, they received an emergency phone call that there was a fire and that they should leave immediately.  So the three of them -- Leslie, Preston and Leslie's mom--jumped in the car and for over an hour drove in bumper-to-bumper traffic through the length of the town  to escape the fire.  There was heavy smoke, high winds, embers, and spot fires everywhere. They finally made it out and found a hotel an hour away.  They only had the clothes they were wearing (Leslie grabbed her laptop!)

The good news is that they are safe and extremely happy to be alive. 

The bad news is that they lost everything -- furniture; clothing; personal items such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, soaps, shampoo; shoes; linens; blankets; jewelry; electronics; kitchenware and appliances; books; hiking boots; outdoor equipment; CDs; DVDs; family photos, etc.  They did not have renter's insurance.
 
11/18/18 UPDATE:
Charlie and Marguerite just got off the phone with Leslie. She, Preston and her mom are still in the hotel they found in Red Bluff. It’s impossible to find any accommodation now. Every apartment there is filled even though 90 minutes away from where the fire was raging. 

Marguerite asked Leslie: “How do you like the Go Fund Me response so far, do you feel loved?” To which Leslie replied: “Oh my heaven’s yes, it is so amazing, we can’t believe it. It takes the pressure off so that we can navigate through this. We’re just trying to figure out where to live now. Mom is in a lot of pain since the fire.”

Leslie and Preston have worked their entire adult lives for the Transcendental Meditation organization.  Many of us know them for their dedication and careful attention to those they have served as directors of the Maharishi Jyotish office for the West Coast.  

We are thankful that they are safe.  May we all gather together, wrap our arms around them and their community, and help them in any way we can.  We will keep the updates coming.
