Helping My Father Fight Cancer
Donation protected
As many of you already know, my name is Marcel Dominguez, the oldest son of Elias Dominguez. Approximately two months ago, we got hit with the worst news a person could ever receive. My father was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. This came as a complete surprise to all of us, especially with my father being only 50 years of age.
My father, Elias, grew up in the community he works in and comes from a great, hard-working blue-collar family. Elias himself is a hard-working, devoted husband to his wife, Felicia, and father to 9 children ranging in age from 6 to 26 years.
This all started in the fall of last year, when my father was experiencing unbearable stomach pain. After several doctor visits, my father had multiple surgeries which included work on his pancreas, part of his stomach, gallbladder, and a intestinal bypass operation. We are lucky he made it through all the operations and was able to have the privelege of coming home. However, things began going down hill yet again. My father was still in constant pain, dehydrated, could not hold down any food, and had internal bleeding.
Currently, my father is in the hospital down in Albuquerque, New Mexico recovering from a recent surgery that has left a huge incision across his abdomen. Although he's in pain, my father fights everyday to recover. Everyday he gets up and walks miles around the hospital grounds. He simply refuses to let anything negative bring him down. He refuses to accept the fact that very few patients survive this type of cancer. He refuses to accept the timetable given by doctors of 3 to 6 months left to live. His faith is strong and so is mine. My dad is a fighter!
As the oldest of 9 children, I feel that it is important for me to do everything I can to help my family through this tragic time. Although I live 400 miles away from my family and have a family of my own, I try my best to visit every other weekend, helping out my mother as much as possible. I sympathize for my mom the most, as she does her best to take care of all the children, one who is in and out of the hospital currently, and my grandfather, who needs care around the clock.
It is extremely difficult for me to request help, but more bearable than the thought of not doing anything and having my family suffer even more during this time. The reason I am seeking funds is because the cost of everything that is occurring is outrageously expensive for my parents. The cancer is taking a huge toll on their daily lives, and the lack of finances just adds to that. My mom has been out of work for a little over 6 months now, but with my dad needing as much assistance as possible, all her time goes to him and the children.
Many people have come forward to express their concern and ask what they can do to help, with many expressing feelings of helplesness. The truth is, there is a way people can help and that's by way of monetary donations.
If you are able to give any amount, no matter how big or small, the good it will do for the Elias and his family is immeasurable. If you want to take it one step further and do something more, please forward this page to your friends and family and ask if they will help him too. My father is fully aware of this page, so please feel free to spread the word.
In the coming weeks and months, I will update everyone on my father's status and the progress we all pray he makes. All donations will be used to offset medical expenses and ensure that the family can remain by his side to faciliate his recovery. Thank you, in advance, for your donation, and please continue to pray for my father Elias and the Dominguez family. God Bless!
Sincerely,
Marcel Dominguez
