This is George. He is the happiest little man I have ever met, despite all his medical problems. George was born at 29 weeks (just over 7 months into the pregnancy)and because of his prematurity, has had to have a tracheostomy (artificial airway) to breathe and a feeding tube port placed, because he cannot swallow liquids. There are also many secondary issues associated with the artificial airway, requiring in-home nursing care around the clock, and much time away from work for mom and dad. He is finally ready to have the airway removed, and will be going for major surgery to do this. As part of the healing process, he will be put into a medically induced coma for at least a week. After surgery, the long and slow recovery will also require time and energy from everyone involved. As one would imagine, his parents plan to be with him during this time, which will require even more time away from work. The financial burden from lost wages and medical bills have already been mounting, and this much needed surgery will increase that difficulty. Baby George and his family would greatly benefit, and be ever grateful for any financial support that you could send their way during this very difficult process.
