Help Katie and her family overcome medical crisis

Hi everyone,

This is Melanie Diaz, Katie’s family friend for 27 years. I am writing this with a heavy heart. On June 26th, Katie and her 4-year-old son Harrison were involved in a horrible car accident that has turned her life upside down. She sustained severe injuries and was life-flighted to the Houston Medical Center for emergency treatment. Harrison suffered a concussion but is expected to recover and not require long-term health treatment. Katie, on the other hand, underwent emergency treatment and surgery to save her arm. Her road to recovery will be long and challenging, both physically and emotionally. Her doctors tell us she may never regain full use of her left arm. As you can imagine, the medical bills, life flight, and loss of their only car are already overwhelming, and there will be ongoing expenses for rehabilitation and therapy. Unfortunately, insurance will be paying only a small percentage of the cost and none of the estimated 15K life flight charges.

If this ordeal wasn’t enough, Katie’s husband, Jacob was laid off from his job of 17 years on the very same day as the accident, leaving them without a source of income and health insurance at this critical time.

Katie is an amazing daughter, mother, wife, and friend and she means the world to those of us who know her.

Her family consists of 2 toddlers(4 and 2), a set of 10-month-old infant twins, and her husband. Not having the use of both of her arms is more than difficult, especially not being able to pick up her infant twins.

Katie has always been there for us and others in times of need, and now it's our turn to support her and her family.

We are setting up this GoFundMe campaign to help alleviate some of the financial burden so that Katie and her family can focus on her recovery without the added stress of mounting medical bills.
