Almost three years ago, among a sea of kittens, we crossed paths with a little ball of fluff we named Gigi. Since then, our lives have been, quite simply, better. She healed wounds she never caused and filled spaces we didn’t know were empty—things we never thought a tiny ball of fur with four paws could do.

Now it’s our turn to be there for her. After nearly two weeks of illness, this Monday we were told she only had a 10% chance of survival, and that by Wednesday we would likely have to say goodbye. It was heartbreaking.

But today is Friday, and Gigi is improving. Very Gigi of her.

Unfortunately, the costs of hospitalization, surgery, medications, tests, and recovery have piled up and continue to grow. It’s very likely she will need another surgery. Any help, no matter how small or big, will help ease this burden and allow us to focus on making sure Gigi gets the care she needs to recover.

Those who know her know she’s the most perfect little cat. We want to see her again sitting by the window, soaking up the sun, asking for belly rubs, letting out those peculiar meows that always make us smile, waking us up with her 10 pounds of love on our chest, or walking down the street only to suddenly realize we’re covered in her fur from head to toe.

We know she still has many years ahead of her, and we will do everything we can to make sure she lives them.

Hace casi tres años, entre un mar de gatitos, coincidimos con una pequeña pelucita a la que llamamos Gigi. Desde entonces, nuestras vidas han sido, simple y sencillamente, mejores. Sanó heridas que nunca causó y llenó espacios que no sabíamos que estaban vacíos, cosas que nunca pensamos que una bolita de pelos con cuatro patas podría hacer.

Ahora nos toca a nosotras estar ahí para ella. Después de casi dos semanas enferma, este lunes nos dijeron que solo tenía un 10% de probabilidad de sobrevivir y que para el miércoles probablemente tendríamos que despedirnos. Fue desgarrador.

Pero hoy es viernes, y Gigi está mejorando. Muy Gigi de su parte.

Lamentablemente, los gastos por hospitalización, cirugía, medicinas, exámenes y recuperación se han acumulado y siguen aumentando. Es muy probable que necesite otra cirugía más. Cualquier ayuda, por más pequeña o grande que sea, nos permitirá aliviar esta carga y seguir enfocándonos en que Gigi reciba el cuidado que necesita para recuperarse.

Quienes la conocen saben que es la gatita más perfecta. Queremos volver a verla sentada junto a la ventana, fotosintetizándose en el sol, pidiendo belly rubs, soltando esos maullidos tan peculiares que siempre nos sacan una sonrisa, despertándonos con sus 10 libras de amor sobre el pecho o caminando por la calle y, de repente, descubrirnos cubiertas de sus pelitos en toda la ropa.

Sabemos que le quedan muchos años por delante y haremos todo lo posible para que los viva.
