My name is Rene’ O’Hagan and I am a close friend of Mike and Tammi Coker.
Mike has fought stage IV colon cancer and went into remission 2 years ago. But now Mike has been diagnosed with stage IV Leiomyosarcoma, a rare cancer that has formed a tumor on his left glute and iliac bone. This tumor has caused such immense pain that he is completely non-weight bearing on his left leg.
Mike did one clinical trial that caused so many sores all over his body that it had to be discontinued. He has also done a treatment of doxorubicin (better known as Red Devil) and Trabectedin chemos which have so many severe and harsh side effects that he wanted to find another way.
Mike and Tammi have researched treatments with the best outcomes and less severe side effects on his body. They decided to go to Mexico to start a treatment that is not offered in the United States. Unfortunately this treatment is NOT covered by their insurance, so all costs must be covered by them. As you can imagine, the cost of this treatment is high ($33,000 per treatment and Mike is needing at least two more), and with the added expenses of travel and lodgings have not only drained their life savings, but drained them both physically and mentally.
Mike and Tammi have both given so much to their community for decades. As a firefighter for 34 years, Mike put his life on the line for others on a daily basis. He was one of the first responders at the Murrah Bombing in 1995 and volunteered countless hours beyond his normal shift and later ran in the Memorial Marathon in remembrance of that horrific event in Oklahoma history. He has volunteered with Fill the Boot to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association, volunteered with little league teams and his church’s children’s RA programs. Tammi taught (34 years) and coached (22 years) in their hometown of Lexington. She has also volunteered with little league, VBS and Sunday school. She was also the driving force behind a disc golf course built in their city park, while Mike volunteered countless hours of labor to complete the project. Both Mike and Tammi have given themselves tirelessly to make their community a better and safer environment for everyone.
Galatians 6:2 states: “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you fulfill the law of Christ.”
I am asking you to donate what you can and give back to a couple who have given so much and so freely for their entire lives. It’s time for us to rally around Mike and Tammi and let them know we have their backs - like they did for us for so many years. Let’s give them the peace of mind that they are NOT in this fight alone and together we can cover the cost of this treatment.
I know Mike and Tammi would appreciate you sharing this information on any and all social media accounts.Thank you in advance for your generosity and continued prayers.
Sincerely, Rene’ O’Hagan
