Fighting for Kevin’s Life – Help Our Bulldog Make It Home
Donation protected
Hi everyone,
I never thought I’d be making one of these, but I’m here for our sweet boy Kevin, our English Bulldog, who’s been through so much lately.
For the past four years, we’ve been struggling with the decision to do this surgery because of how much risk is involved, but we wanted to give him a better quality of life and the chance to be with us for many more years. Kevin needed BOAS surgery (to help him breathe better), hernia repair, neutering, and treatment for an ongoing infection under his tail. Because we had to get surgery on the tail, the vet strongly recommended that we should take care of everything at once.
What we didn’t expect was the cascade of complications that followed.
A day and a half after surgery, things were improving and we were hours away from getting him back, but he collapsed as a result of airway blockage. It was found that Kevin developed aspiration pneumonia and had to be re intubated. He’s been the ICU for five days, fighting for his life. Since then, he’s been re intubated and put on a ventilator on and off because he’s unable to clear mucus or potentially tissue from his airways. It’s been terrifying.
What was supposed to be a $6,000 procedure has turned into over $20,000 in emergency care, ICU stays, and ventilator support. It’s been an absolute heartbreaking week which started with the best of intentions and has now brought us to our breaking point, but we keep saying yes to treatment because we see that he’s trying. His body is healing and he wants to get better. We were able to see him yesterday, groggy but awake and so happy to see his parents. After feeling positive, we’ve hit yet another setback. We’re having to explore further options to identify what’s going on.
Kevin is our baby. He’s the sweetest, most stubborn, lovable goofball. We just want to see him come home again.
If you’re able to help in any way, whether through a donation or simply sharing this, we’d be so, so grateful. Every little bit helps us continue giving Kevin the care he needs to recover and come back to us.
Anything over the goal would be donated to help dogs in need of this procedure.
Thank you for reading and for being here for him.
With gratitude,
Gene & Nate
