In May of this year, I experienced a post-concussive relapse that triggered a series of neurological symptoms — impaired cognitive function, slowed speech and fine motor skills, and near-constant fatigue. While I am recovering, it’s been at a much slower pace than anyone anticipated, and as of now, I remain uncertain of when I’ll be able to return to work.
As you can imagine, the financial strain of ongoing bills, medical costs, and basic living expenses has begun to pile up.
We’re incredibly fortunate to be surrounded by a beautiful circle of friends who have shown up with love and care — especially in helping to care for my son when I’ve been unable to. Their support has been a lifeline.
Still, I find myself facing not just the challenges of my physical recovery, but the very real, very humbling lesson of asking for help — a difficult shift from the state of self-reliance in which I’ve lived my life, holding to the belief that “at the end of the day, you’re all you’ve got.”
This experience is teaching me that life doesn’t have to be a solo journey; and, it’s instilling in me a deeper understanding of just how vital community is in the process of healing. If you’re able to support — in any amount, in any way — please know it will be sincerely appreciated and humbly received.
I believe, deeply, that life finds a way to return generosity ten-fold.
Thank you for reading, for caring, and for being part of this journey with me.
With love and gratitude,
