The Boys of Kodiak

Kodiak High School Football is an anomaly. This amazing tight-knit island community of 6,500 located 150 miles from mainland Alaska banded together to guarantee its student-athletes have the same opportunities to play football as any other American student. This means the vast majority of funding for the team and its equipment and travel comes from the community and the non-profit 501(c)3 Kodiak Football League.

Because Kodiak is an island, travel costs comprise the bulk of the expenses for the Bears, and can include a minimum one-hour flight or a 10- to 14-hour ferry ride followed by a lengthy bus ride. In some years, travel expenses have exceeded $60,000. As a result, fundraising is done year-round, and Kodiak's small community has given continuously to make it happen.

While the community and the KFL have been unbelievable in their support of KHS Football, tough economic times have changed this blue-collar community, and the coaching staff and players are asking for your financial support to help maintain and expand their vision of ensuring Kodiak's student-athletes enjoy a constructive and safe experience as well as bringing a positive product to the community of which they can be proud.
