Boys Will Be Boys is a 10-15 minute trans film helmed by writer/director Miles Gourley and lead producer Sam Robinson.
Logline: Apprehensive Ruben reunites with his well-meaning brother for the first time since transitioning. However, he must endure an abrasive and gruelling stag do.
Themes include brotherhood, toxic masculinity, lad/drinking culture, coming of age and the danger of the intoxicating nature of charismatic people.
This is Miles's 7th short film he's directed and his next step on showing his distinct and unique approach to the medium. Boys Will Be Boys is his way of expressing the trans experience within the toxic masculinity of a stag do.
This film is following Miles' recent early festival success in his documentary film On The Ropes, which tells the story of a bisexual wrestler's life growing up in care and how wrestling saved him.The film was nominated for Best Student Film at Bolton Film Festival and has received high praise and mentorship from feature documentary filmmaker James Pickering.
Boys Will Be Boys is a follow up film with the same crew from On The Ropes to continue our joint mission statement and artistic collaboration together.
We are looking to shoot in late February/early March and are currently deep in pre production working towards those shoot days.
We currently have £2250 towards the film thanks to early success in our pitching leading to a lot of other students joining the crew increasing the funding/support from MetFilm. While we do currently have enough to shoot the locked 11 page script on a tight schedule, we are looking to raise an additional £1750.
This funding will go towards an extra shoot day which will give us more time to dedicate to key scenes with our union actors and allow us to allocate more budget towards needed areas like production design and catering.
We are currently also creating a collaboration album alongside the film working exclusively with trans artists. While we are doing gigs to promote the film and the artists our composer doesn't do live performances. Due to this the extra funding will also allow us to pay them as they have currently offered to do an original score and track for free.
Finally this funding will give us the financial support in post production to allow us to hire a professional sound mixer and start our festival journey.
We are all ecstatic to help create Miles's vision on a much needed, underrepresented story from an underrepresented voice. Any money you can donate will help us achieve this vision to its full potential and make it the best it can possibly be.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story/project and we look forward to sharing more.
Sam and the Boys Will Be Boys team.
