Taking part in a charity boxing match has always been something that I have wanted to do, and surprisingly it’s taken me over forty years to actually do it!

This journey will take me across many mental and physical hurdles, there are strengths that I already possess, problem solving, critical thinking, determination, a strong will to win and a desire to succeed and I’m reasonably strong and fit, but there is more that I want to learn about my mentality and how I can grow as a person.

Boxing can be humbling, and learning more about humility in a sporting sense is something that will benefit me immensely in my life, whereas finding out more about my own mental fortitude and how I’ll overcome resistance and adversity is something that intrigues me.

As well as being something that I want to do on a personal level, it’s also important to do something for others along the way.

As part of the White Collar Boxing WA fundraising for the event, we will be raising money for two incredible groups, Tiny Sparks WA and the Women & Infants Research Foundation who both help premature babies and their families in WA.

If I’m putting my body on the line, I want to do it for something with real purpose, that will help real people in real life situations, that is something I’ll be thinking about when I’m training, when things get tough, because there is always somebody in a worse situation that you and me.

I’m not asking for a lot, I’m asking for something that you can be comfortable giving, and as far as I know, no one has ever become poor by giving to others. If you don't want to do it for me, do it for them, these people need it and will be grateful forever.

Anything above the $1700 that I am looking for will be donated to Beyond Blue, a charity close to my heart and one that does amazing work around stress, anxiety and depression.
